Protostarengineering is a kitchen remodeling contractor working in Scottsdale, Arizona. We take on full remodels, but a lot of our work begins with a narrower complaint: the kitchen gets hot and smoky every time someone cooks, the counters are covered in fine dust by the end of the week, or a new appliance keeps tripping a breaker.

Those complaints have a common cause. Houses here spend a long stretch of every year closed up against the heat. The windows stay shut from late spring into fall, the air conditioning runs almost without a break, and whatever the cooktop sends into the air has nowhere to go unless the kitchen was built to move it outside. Monsoon storms then push fine dust into any gap they can find. Hard municipal water adds white scale to the sink, faucet and backsplash.

So we plan in a particular order. First, how the cooking air leaves: hood size and mounting height, the duct route, the exterior cap and whether the house needs make up air. Second, the electrical: what the panel can carry, which appliances need their own circuits, where GFCI protection belongs and how the lighting is layered. Only then do we get to cabinets, counters, tile and hardware, and we choose those knowing about the dust and the water.

How We Work

• We look before we quote. We open the hood, trace where the duct goes (or find out it goes nowhere), read the panel label and count what is already on each circuit.
• We tell you when not to spend. If your cabinets are sound plywood and the layout works, a new hood, a proper duct run and better lighting might be the whole job.
• We plan permits and reviews early. Work that moves walls, adds circuits or cuts a new roof or wall penetration goes through the City of Scottsdale, and many planned communities want to see exterior changes first.
• We keep the kitchen usable when we can. Demolition, rough in and inspection are grouped so the stretch without a working kitchen is as short as the job allows.
